FOOD WASTE REDUCTION & CANADA'S STEP WITH NEW INITIATIVE

Canada has increased its steps towards food waste reduction and introduced new reforms, measures & prospective initiatives for the food waste reduction program 2030.

Estimates shows that more than half of Canada’s food supply is wasted on a record of yearly stats & 49.5 billion of that food waste is highly unavoidable. There are many resources through which the food is wasted. From farms in form of raw food to plate (Servings). On top of this, there is a lot of wastage of food during the production & processing. Hence, finally the distribution process, i.e. in the final process of Supply Chain. Apart from this in the retail industry, food-service and providers & virtually even at home the wastage of food is a common phenomenon. How it’s hurting the environment is a question of greater importance for the Government? Furthermore, the drawbacks of food waste on environmental sustainability are the two key primary aspects that needs immense pondering.

According to the Minister Bibeau, the Ministry is affirmative with the reductions in food waste. Ironically, the efforts are proving good with so many positive reasons. It helps in saving the consumers money in many ways. Hence, brings drastic improvements in the food security according to international standards. It also is a huge step in providing support to the agriculture and food sector.

Primarily, as the agriculture sector in Canada provides huge amounts of profits annually. Significantly, being one of the biggest contributors in the Canadian economic system. The most significant thing that is best for environmental sustainability is the reduction in the greenhouse gas emissions. These are some of the exciting challenges that Govt. has taken care of. Furthermore, with research & innovation they keep finding ways of reducing food waste across the supply chain.

According to World stats regards to food waste. A significant 8% of all the Greenhouse gases worldwide are a result of the food waste. This is not only figures related to Canada, but overall in the entire world.

The Canadian Govt. is playing its vital part very actively as they know the hazards that relates to the environment due to wastage. It’s also part and parcel of the Govt’s ambitious agenda to work for the support of the food business owners, stakeholders related to food businesses & the hard-working farmers of Canada.

Canada’s food policy is designed in such a way that it will significantly help the country meet its requirements under the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Part of these goals is the oath of the Govt. to reduce hunger, promotion of good health & safe environment, cut down food waste to higher extent and finally encourage sustainable food systems.

It’s the vital commitment of the country Canada to the UN’s agenda of 2030 for Sustainable development. According to the agenda of UN halve per capita global food waste at the retail sector and the consumer levels. Apart from this useful reductions in food losses during productions & supply chains. This also includes the post-harvest losses, and needs to be attained in a period of decade, i.e. by 2030.
